If you have not yet experienced the thrill of taking this extraordinary walk along the lake, we strongly advise you to put on a pair of comfortable shoes and wait for the first sunny day.
The Greenway of Lake Como is a naturalistic and cultural route that winds for 10km and passes through the municipalities of Colonno, Sala Comacina, Ossuccio, Lenno, Mezzegra, Tremezzo and Griante, passing not only along the lake but also through historical villages and important villas.
The signage of the Greenway is well visible and you can walk either the whole route (about 3 hours and a half) or the individual 5 sections.
Here is a summary of this pleasant adventure:
COLONNO – Sala COMACINA In this first section you will enter from Via Cappella in the historical center of Colonno; after passing the square you will cross the bridge over the Pessetta creek and walk beside the old Regina road with terraced plots and beautiful olive groves up to reach Sala Comacina arriving at the chapel of San Rocco.
Crossing the bridge you will enter Campo di Lenno and you will find Villa Monastero, reaching the Hotel Lavedo. From here, you can decide whether to follow to the majestic Villa Balbianello or continue the Greenway to Lido di Lenno: to be visited are the square, the church of S. Stefano, the Baptistery of S. Giovanni and the Imbarcadero.
From the Imbarcadero you will climb up to tiny Mezzegra and then descend to the Municipality of Tremezzo. Along the way you will find the churches of S. Giuseppe and S. Abbondio, and a beautiful panorama of the promontory of Bellagio. You will pass the historical Palazzo Brentano in Bonzanico and you will arrive in Bolvedro by crossing the main road.
The final part of the Greenway is totally along the lake: from here you will observe the villas La Quiete and Mayer and pass through the Imbarcadero of Tremezzo. From the historical center we recommend a visit to the majestic Villa Carlotta very near to the lido. Here ends the Greenway, but you can always trek up to the wonderful Menaggio.
